About Us

MADPET (Malaysians Against Death Penalty and Torture) is a group of persons who have came together in early 2005  to actively advocate and campaign for the abolition of Death Penalty and all forms of Torture. MADPET is a more an idea and a cause  rather than being a formal structure. It is a movement rather an establishment. It's coordinators or spokepersons are Charles Hector, N. Surendran and Salbiah Ahmad. On 18/3/2006, MADPET succeeded in getting the Malaysian Bar, representing over 12,000 lawyers in Peninsular Malaysia to pass a resolution calling for the abolition of the death penalty, a moratorium on death sentences pending abolition and a commutation of of all death sentences. On 20/3/2006 publicly came out in support of the abolition of the death penalty. Thereafter, the abolition of the  death penalty debate began in the media. We hope that the Death Penalty will be abolished.

MADPET has always been actively against, amongst others,  torture, police abuse of powers, deaths  in police custody and the  shoot to kill attitude of the police . MADPET strives for greater protection to ensure a fair trial and is totally in support for the formation of an Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC).
