Lesbian sex may be tolerated if done quietly. Anal sex is illegal, even oral sex in some parts. Punishment up to three years' imprisonment. Oman is an Arab country where the muslim religion permeates society. Although formally illegal, male homosexual activity is quite common. There is reportedly some acceptance of men that dress in a mix of the accepted traditional styles of men and women.
