Information on the situation for homosexuals in Indonesia:

Legal

Indonesia is a huge country stretching from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific - from Sumatra to New Guinea. It contains a number of totally different cultures and religions and it is therefore impossible to give a uniform picture of the situation for homosexuals. To some, homosexual acts may be completely taboo while it even is expected of others at one period in life! Homosexuality is, however, legal throughout this island nation. The island of Bali is a popular target for gay tourists.

Islam, with its restrictive attitude towards gays, finds its way to an increasing number of followers. In fact Indonesia is one of the world's greatest Islamic nations.
