Information on the situation for homosexuals in Costa Rica:

Legal

The Constitution of Costa Rica protects homosexuals as equal to any
citizen of Costa Rica, however, the police is known to occationally harass gay men and transvestites. Closeted homosexuality is generally tolerated. In a recent gallup poll 70% of the people interviewed believed that homosexuals should have the same rights as heterosexuals.

There are several gay and lesbian groups and organizations, like the "Colectivo Gay Universitario", the AlCS, the GGLFC, and the "Grupo Diferentes" who are members of the ILGA.
