The Event

The organisers have chosen areas that provide championship orienteering on challenging maps.  The maps are all within easy distance from Goulburn offering a variety of terrain from open eucalypt forest, fast spur/gully with gold mining features and intricate sandstone formations.

The Location

The event will be centred on the Lilac City of Goulburn.  Goulburn is located 200 km south-west of Sydney, and 85 km north of Canberra.  It is an easy drive on expressways from both Sydney and Canberra.  Goulburn is a major inland city of NSW with all amenities and a full range of accommodation.   All events will be within close proximity.

The Maps

Mapping is currently being undertaken by Eric Andrews and Graham Fowler to ensure top class maps.

Family Relays

Western and Hills Orienteers will host the Family Relays on open eucalypt terrain on Friday 29th March 2002 catering for all standards. Courses will be set by Kevin Williams.

Day 1

Courses will be set by Chris Wilmott and Jim Sligar to provide a challenging first day for all competitors.  The terrain is eucalypt with patches of fast open running combined with intricate spur gully and rock outcrops.

Day 2

Day 2 will provide classic courses on fast, open spur gully terrain with gold mining features.  The area provides the opportunity for longer legs and interesting detail.  Course setters will be Chris Wilmott and Jim Sligar.

Day 3

The final day will be set among spectacular conglomerate formations with grand views of the surrounding countryside.  Paul Davis and Peter Meyer will ensure that competitors remain focused in this intricate terrain.
