T'zir's Candidacy

T’zir had been surprised when Ilyboth chose him. He had been rather calm about the whole thing, hadn’t he? With a smile, he oiled down his precious dragonet. G’leyr was there to lend a helping hand, even though his lovely Nuikath had only hatched the turn before.

G’leyr was eager to help with everything, as he always had at Kielac. It never occurred to T’zir that his companion was neglecting Nuikath to be at his side. As it was, once they were reunited, it was rather hard to get them apart. As more and more time passed, the two grew closer and little blue Ilyboth began to feel the pinch. He grew rather demanding – to be fed, bathed, oiled...

After Dragonhealer Glinde of Ryslen found Nuikath in such bad shape on the lakeshore, the Weyrlingmaster made them get their acts together. Nuikath and Ilyboth were immediately bathed and scrubbed thoroughly and fed. G’leyr saw to Nuikath’s thickened tail. Then the two riders were set to mucking out the barracks – the entire barracks, not just their dragonet’s couches – and the great queens knew how much mess three clutches of dragons could make in one day.

To add insult to injury (though well deserved it was) the Weyrlingmaster put a restriction on the time T’zir and G’leyr could spend together – meals, class, and when caring for their dragons – in short, the times they could see each other were the only times they couldn’t avoid each other. It was harsh, but almost losing two dragons deserved such consequences.

T’zir sat on the stony couch with Ilyboth’s head in his lap. He felt horrid for ignoring his draogn, but he finally had G’leyr back, and now they wanted to keep them apart. It would be easy to keep spending time with him, if he...

IlybothDon’t even think about it. Ilyboth warned. They know you love G’leyr. Don’t make them split you up further.

The words of the blue struck home, the Weyrlingmaster had said that they’d had Weyrlings taken to other Weyrs to complete their training to keep conflicts from compromising draconic health.

I’m sorry Ilyboth. I wasn’t neglecting you on purpose. T’zir said, stroking his dragon’s neck lovingly. I’ll never do it again.

See that you don’t. Ilyboth said, lifting his head. I want to go to sleep now. He said, waiting for his ridre to move off the couch.

T’zir reluctantly moved. "You do know I love you, right Ilyboth?"

And I you. Ilyboth said. Of course I knew. I’m not stupid, you know.

"I never said you were." T’zir replied, slipping into his bed.

He and G’leyr were lucky their dragons had short memories...

But will Ilyboth forget?
