Windows XP Launch Date

Microsoft has said that the launch date of there new operating system will be the 25th of October, 2001.

Windows XP -- the new Windows with a new look -- is built on an enhanced Windows 2000 engine and enables exciting experiences that gives users the freedom to create, connect and communicate in new ways. Windows XP also establishes a new standard in power, reliability, security and simplicity. The operating system will be available on Oct. 25, 2001, in two editions: Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Professional Edition for businesses of all sizes.

"Mark your calendars now: The release of Windows XP on Oct. 25 is going to be a historic day for our customers and for the industry," said Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer at Microsoft. "Windows XP will be the highest-quality Microsoft operating system ever.

Yes, Windows XP will be much more stable.......and that's a thing we all need. All the BETA reviews I have seen are giving it the thumbs up. So, XP looks very good.

What doesn't look good is the minimum system requirements. It's pretty high! The minimun requirements are a Pentium 2 233MHz, with 64MB RAM, and a 1.5GB hard drive. But running it on a machine with that specification would be very slow. I would install it on a Pentium 2/Celeron (version A) 300MHz+, but with 256MB RAM. If you have a Pentium III/Celeron 450MHz or better, 128MB should be okay - but the more RAM you have installed, the better.

"Available on new PCs and as a full version at retail locations, Windows XP is one of the most eagerly anticipated software releases this year!"
