nVidia Release's New GeForce Titanium Range of Graphic Processors

NVIDIA has announced a new range of Graphic Processing Units (GPUs). They have named them 'Titanium', instead of the usual 'Pro' or 'Ultra'. Built on the .15 micron process, the GeForce2 Ti is a new addition to the GeForce2 family. The GeForce3 series get two new chips - GeForce Ti 200 & 500.

'Titanium' is clearly NOT signalizing 'better performance'. The GeForce2 Ti stands between the GeForce2 Pro and the Ultra in terms of performance. You could call the GeForce3 Ti 200 the MX version of GeForce3, and the GeForce3 Ti 500 the Ultra version. What it is supposed to realize though is 'better bang for the buck'. Due to the lower micron, these chips will be cheaper to make.

Here is a table which makes this easer to understand.

I think GeForce2 Ti is a waste of time. But the GeForce3 additions are something worth getting.

NVIDIA will make these new chips available on October 12, 2001. You should be able to get a card or computer with these new chips some time in November.
