Altoona Mountain Citys
The Major League's Smallest Market...ever.
It was in 1884 that 3 major leagues and 34 teams competed for the fans' entertainment dollar.  It was in this strangest of years in baseball history that Altoona's sole entry in the major leagues was born, and then died.  The Mountain Citys of the Union Association did not finish their first season, and only one player survived the trainwreck of that year to achieve stardom in the major leagues.
