MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is to provide sex offenders, sex addicts and sexually abusive persons with a Model Plan to stop victimizing behaviors and cycles of sexual abuse. The Plan accomplishes this by teaching offenders how to create a personalized comprehensive life changing Relapse Prevention Plan which becomes their LifeAfter Management Plan.

PLAN PHILOSOPHY:
This Model Relapse Prevention Plan is based upon a blending of behavior management, interventions, personal restrictions, and appropriate confidant monitoring; "Cognitive Behavior Therapy." Offenders must take responsibility for past acts, and have a strong desire to change personal behaviors, and are required to make a personal commitment to live the relapse prevention plan they develop. Offenders select a "Confidant" from the community, who jointly with the offender, develop the offender's personalized relapse prevention plan, following Model Plan Guidelines.

Coupling a "Confidant" with an "Offender" creates a safe environment to share and evaluate information. However, confidants need to assist yet challenge the offender, keeping in mind the long term goal is to stop the offender's victimizing behaviors. Confidants will also assist in implementing the offender's finalized LifeAfter Management Plan.

The offender is taught to recognize their "Cycle of Abuse" and its subtle phases, and what "Triggers It," if it occurs in the future. The offender is taught to resolve issues of their past life, as these may lead to setting off triggers, then lead into their cycle of abuse. The plan goes beyond purely sexual issues..

The offender is shown that their cycle of abuse is not a spontaneous event in time, but instead, a series of acts and events, and seemingly unimportant decisions which set them up for failure! The offender is taught to recognize subtle pre-offense urges, thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and "high-risk" circumstances, and how to develop "personal restrictions" and "interventions" to thwart these subtle paths which can lead into their cycle of abuse.

Finally, the offender is reminded that they can be a productive member of society and needs to resolve personal issues related to "Self-Esteem" and develop skills to enhance, balance, and refocus their lifestyle as part of their final LifeAfter Management Plan. How they choose to accomplish this must consider what they have developed for "personal restrictions" and "interventions."

Of all the lessons we learn, the single most powerful, most important one is:
to Hate no one!

PLAN HISTORY:
This Model Relapse Prevention Plan evolved from an offender's personal plan written during group therapy, and with other offenders' input. The plan was further updated with input from community mental health persons, social workers, ministers and criminal justice advocates. Personal "Confidants" are used to assist the offender in plan preparation.

FUTURE OF MODEL PLAN:
Today, confidants and ex-offenders are still contributing, and using this Model Plan to develop additional relapse prevention plans. Contributions which enhance or strengthen the Model Plan are considered for inclusion in the Model Plan. Ex-Offenders' LifeAfter Management Plans are preventing further victims and curbing cycles of abuse.
