We were short handed for
this game as only 10
girls were at the field.
The other team had an
envious 3 subs. The girls
forced the short numbers
from their heads and played
extremely well. Every-
one battled and challenged
very hard in the first
half. It looked like we
would get out of it only
1-0 down and would gain
the wind advantage in the
second half. Unfortunately
they scored again with
just a few ticks left in
the half and we sat down
2-0 down. We sustained a
couple of injuries in the
first half but none of the
girls were going to quit.
The second half saw us move
a defense up into mid-
field to try to put more
pressure on them and it
seemed to pay off when Brenna,
working hard, managed
to find some space 20 yards
out but her hard shot
clanged of the metal when
we deserved so much more.
A few minutes later Kate,
now playing mid-field,
took a free kick on the
right side and Carleigh
deflected it into the net.
The girls pressed
desperately for the tying
goal in the last ten
minutes but despite some
shakey goal keeping from
the opposition we couldn't
get the ball across their
line. Our goalie, Jenna,
played very well in shutting
down the Royals in the second
half. She spent more
time at the feet of attackers
than standing I think.
All the girls, Rachael,
Kate, Stacie, Christine,
Brenna, Megan, Carleigh,
Hend, Alicia and Jenna
deserve high praise for
battling so hard on a hot
day while short handed.
They should have been
rewarded with at least a
tie but in this case they
have to be content with
the fact they gave this
game everything they had
and can be proud of the way
they played. If we carry
the same heart into the
last three games then we
should do well. If you
somehow measure this game
against the first couple
we played then you'll see
that we played much more
as a team yesterday.
I and you parents are
proud of you girls.
p.s. maybe we were jinxed .. this being game 13!!
