Have you ever been sleeping peacefully when you were awakened by a squealing noise coming from your Dwarfies cage? You look and find one hamster on top of the other one and it looks as if they're fighting. Not to worry, this is completely normal. Unless there's actualy bloodshed, then you have nothing to worry about. This playful fighting or 'squabbling' is simply to establish dominance among them. If you notice carefully, they dont actually sink their teeth into each other. They're just on top of each other. | ||||||||||||||||

- The hamster that pins the other one down is showing the hamster on his back that he's the more dominant one. He wont get off until the other hamster gives up & doesnt fight back. - Sometimes you may even notice that the 'dominant' hamster will lick the pinned hamster's stomach before getting off. This is also normal behavior. This 'squabbling' behavior will continue as long as you have two or more Dwarf hamsters housed together. You dont really have anything to worry about unless you notice any of these two things: 1. bloodshed 2. one particular one being picked on by all the rest. Other then this, everything is fine. The squealing and screaming may even sound really bad sometimes. Like they're killing each other, but trust me, my hamsters do it all the time. It can get annoying though, so I always tend to seperate them when they get too loud. |
