Mrs. Kate B.
Sherwood Tent No. 42, Cambridge, Ohio, was instituted June 11, 1915, by Ohio Department
President Clara Gilchrist Yengling. Forty-eight names were on the charter. The Tent was
named for the wife of General Isaac Sherwood, a very patriotic woman and a past national
president of the Woman's Relief Corps.
The Tent has been very active and has participated in most
civic and patriotic projects in the community. The members erected a granite memorial in the
Northwood cemetery and Memorial Day services are held at this monument every year.
The Tent has had three members elected as Ohio Department
President: Flora Rainey, Besse Wheeler, and Ethyl D. Lernerl. Many other
members have served as elected or appointed officers in the Ohio Department.
The Tent welcomes new members and encourages all eligible females to contact them
for membership in Mrs. Kate B. Sherwood Tent 42, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil
War, 1961-1865.
