Koh samui island in Thailand's third largest island with 247sq.km, located 35 km off the Suratthani coast and 700 km south of Bangkok. The 35.000 inhabitants are predominantly Buddhist, but there is also a small muslim community. The island was first settled by fishermen, chinese merchants and sea gypsies about 1500 years ago. Besides coconut farming and tourism, fishing has remained one of the island, with an average of 2 million coconuts harvested every month. Temperatures move between 25 - 35 degrees celsius.
