OMG.... i just had my first Duke Nukem Forever dream.

It was really weird. It started off with me being Duke and running round
killing things and people and knocking things over using the physics. I
don't really remember that part very well.

The second part of my dream went really strange. I'd been playing Rome:
Total War so sometimes my mind was using that engine so all the textures on
things were really low- res, but then it would jump to the ultra-polygon
godliness that was the real DNF game.

Now what i was playing was a demo level for DNF. You had to go around and
get to the end of the level. Your objective was to save some chicks and kill
these mutated things (no specific animals like Pig cops) and then shut down
the mutating machine.
The interesting thing was that instead of having a map, when you went from
First person, you could change the perspective to like in Manhatten project
and see the map from side on from the plane intersecting you from front to
back.

The enemies were brilliant. Mainly mutants that could polymorph into
objects. For instance, one that was basically a bulky blob (think mancubus
shape) could morph into the shape of a barrel and change it's colour to a
barrel. Other smaller blobs could seep into grills on the floor and oose out
of the sewers when you came near. Some others could also camouflage
themselves into corners and crevices.
But for me, the best enemy was the robots. They had holographic shielding
that made them be able to change their looks and body shape. You were never
quite sure as to who was friend and foe, except that when you got close to
them you could see the shimmer around the edges of the holo-field. The robot
base model was cool as well. Shiny silver with gold trim and fairly thin,
with a bar across it's chest if it was impersonating a woman.(I didn't see
the male one).

In the level i played you had to scale a partially destroyed builing in a
sort of jumping puzzle and then free hostages in a bunker on the other side
of the map. You could quite easily turn off the generator to the mutator,
but that didn't let you save the hostages and you had to find a different
way to get them. The first time i failed and only got the mutating machine.
The second i managed to open the blast door to the secret underground area
and save the hostages - one of which was General Graves.

Ah, i forgot to mention that i had an AI team mate during this mission. I
rescued her early on and she joined me, sniping away at the enemy. Only, at
the end of the level, she is shot instead of me (she saves my life) and then
she shimmers and the holo-shield goes off to reveal that she is a robot too.

Oh yeah, one notable thing to my dream. I jumped down from a ledge onto some
bottles. I heard them smash and scatter - alerting the nearby enemy to come
and get me - but when i looked back the glass bottle models were still
standing there. As i was inspecting the scene i heard someone say that it
wasn't implemented yet so you couldn't see them break and move round in the
physics engine.

Then my dream switched to the forums and i was browsing a thread saying how
cool DNF's story was and George came back saying that he'd seen some pretty
good stories posted on the forums for other game ideas that forumites had
come up with..... one of them was mine.

So, apart from the last bit (which was due to my ego) it was really cool.

I used to really have a lot of dreams about DNF and 3DR. I mean, sometimes 3
a week. I havn't had one of those dreams in a long time though.

One time George was showing me how real the game was. In the game there was
a monitor in a military installation, George targeted Boston on the screen
and launched a nuke. The wierd part is, it really destroyed Boston in the
real world. (in the dream of course.) There was also a camera on the missile
showing it hit the target.

I had a dream once regarding Duke Nukem. It all started with me buying a new
appartment. In a week or so, the place was a total mess. Because of that,
Saddam (!) and some of his soldiers came and arrested me. I was really
afraid, and I was sure they were going to put me to death. The next day, a
soldier came down to my cell and told me that they had sentenced me to dance
with Saddams wife. As you can imagine, I was very happy.. how bad could that
be?
Anyway, it turned out that Saddams wife was a giant elephant.. much bigger
than in real life. They also told me that it was very clumsy, and the arena
in which I was going to dance with it was filled with the remains of
hundreds of other unfortunate dance partners.
I went into the arena and approached the elephant, certain that I was about
to be killed, and suddenly Duke flew in with his jetpack and shrunk the
elephant.
It was shrunk down to about my size, so I danced without getting hurt at
all.
After I had successfully danced with the elephant for about an hour, Saddam
flew me home in his personal jet.

Had another dream last night, but this one was awesome!! In it George was
touring me around all the stuff they've got in the game thus far. The
graphics were just incredible. I would say 2 million poly per scene at
least! Spherical harmonics were used to store radiosity information in the
lightmaps of static objects, Then for each object, the scene was surrounding
it was rendered to a cubemap, which then was used as environment lighting on
the object. All appropriate objects exibited appropriate sub-surface
scattering too! Then there was the physics. There was one room where the
floor was all smoth mid-sized stones, and each moved independantly and
physically correct when you walked around. They also has this demo of a pro
basketball human player going again a pro basketball alien player. They were
flying through the air doing all sorts of crazy moves and jumps, and the
models were so detailed you could see each muscle and as the characters
moved you could see the muscles moving and defoming the model appropriately.
Not to mention the slow-mo and panning effects. There was running water with
bubbles and everything, and dust, and light shafts, and HDR, and the the LOD
was so amazing. You could scale right close to something (about 10cm at
most) and the detail was so perfect, there was no texture streaching or
anything. All surfaces and isosurfaces had view dependant tesselation so the
geometry was always perfectly smooth. In short, it was a grafikal orgy.

It was so real, I can only dream that DNF will be that mindblowing!

Anyhow, it was a new Trailer. Words fail to describe how cool it was. But
the best part was seeing the eyes of the unbelievers when they were watching
the trailer in absolute awe.

I can tell you it was the most vivid dream ever - not only that but I had
alot to drink last night. The characters in DNF looked like Unreal 3's
characters in terms of detail. There were explosions every 10 seconds, the
lighting was amazing. The lighting was so realistic it made Doom 3 seem like
Doom 2. The pig cops didn't look animated, they looked ****** real. They
were built and scary. The noises they made were really intimidating, not
like Duke 3d. They made really deep hard breathing noises that freaked the
crap out of me when I ran into one. I also had a sexual dream but ahha,
we'll leave that to 3drealms to provide.

I just had a dream about DNF last night, which was strange because my
thoughts were nowhere near DNF.

The dream started out with something negative being done to the 3DR logo (it
was either sold, changed, or vandalized, but I don't remember). After this
brief intro, the scene shifted to inside the 3DR offices, where the staff
was sitting around a round table. Finance was the issue of the day, and
George gloomily informed everyone that 3DR was near bankrupcy and that they
either needed to release DNF soon in the state that it was in or franchise
like mad. An idea of an anime series came up, but it was also decided that
DNF was to come out shortly afterwards.

A simple wish fulfillment or a premonition? You decide
