He was the 2nd Pick, overall by the NJ Devils, in the 1987 entry draft Shanny grew up in a "Big" Irish family.
As a member of Team Canada he competed at the World Cup in 1986 (Canada finished 2nd to to the USA), Nagano 1998 (Lost in the Bronze Medal game vs Finland) & Salt Lake City in 2002 where he added Olympic Gold Medal Champion to his growing list of accomplishments.

Six Degrees of Shanny... NJ traded him to St. Louis for current Devils Captain Scott Stevens. St Louis traded him to Hartford(now Carolina), for Chris Pronger (Now the Blue's Captain). Hartford then traded Shanny to Detroit for future HoF defenseman Paul Coffee and Keith Primeau...Primeau later went to Philly for current Hurricanes Star Rod Brind'Amour.
