9.12 A Saint in the City

INT. THE LOUNGE - EVENING
The lights are dim. Kerry's at her locker, getting ready to go home. Susan comes in,and starts chattering as she goes to her locker. Kerry is quiet.
SUSAN: Pratt left again. Man, when I was an intern it was a full-time job.
KERRY: Yeah, it still is.
SUSAN: Ugh. I just want to go home and get into bed. What do you think the odds are that Antonio Banderas will be there waiting for me? (then) Oh, I almost forgot.
Susan pulls a gift-wrapped package from her locker, and holds it out to Kerry.
SUSAN: Here. I know it's a little early, but I was in Fields buying a gift for my niece and I saw all the infant stuff. I pass all those little clothes and I just go into a trance state, I have to buy something.
Kerry have been trying to work up the spit to say something, and finally manages a:
KERRY: Susan...
But that's all she gets out as Susan keeps going.
SUSAN: Those little onesies and jumpers -- they have complete control over me. And those little shoes. I didn't know if it was a boy or a girl so I got it in green, like a neutral colour, but if you hate it, I have the gift receipt.
KERRY:(finally manages to interupt) I'm not pregnant anymore.
Susan stops talking.
KERRY: I miscarried.
SUSAN: Oh, uh, God. Kerry. I'm so sorry.
Kerry closes her locker.
KERRY: The embryonic loss rate after implantation is about thirty percent in I.V.F. It isn’t rare.
Susan nods, concerned.
KERRY: (softly) Thank you for the thought.
SUSAN: Sure.
Kerry starts to head out, then turns back.
KERRY: And when you see Pratt, why don’t you remind him that this is a full-time job.
Kerry opens the door and heads out.
KERRY: (somewhat brusquely) Goodnight.
