Jan Higgins' Tribute
1927-2002
We lost our Red Hat Sister, Jan Higgins, on Valentine's Day.  Jan was such an inspiration to us all.  She was kind and loving and was always there to give you a helping hand.

Jan was a wonderful poet and writer.  This page will be devoted to her poems, some of which I hope will inspire you, bring you comfort and peace, and maybe a laugh or two.
Even though Jan could not be with us at our recent luncheon, we all know she was there in spirit.
Home
                      Bittersweet

Gold sand and gentlegreen of spring,
Warm breeze upon my face...
A laughing, lapping little brook,
And birdsong, full of grace.

These are the things that one must hold,
Tight!......closely to your heart,
It signifies to all we meet,
This life is but the start.

Walk then, beside me down this lane,
Hold tightly to my hand,
Just let me feel your lightest touch,
And show you understand.

When Parting comes, and sorrow grows.... Keep only Love's bright toys,
And viewing past remembered times,
Remember first, the joys!

                     Snowflakes

Like angel kisses, gently falling,
Vanishing from sight...
Touched by moonbeams softly glowing
Magic in the night......

Lazy snowflakes drifting past me,
To settle on the ground~
And just as quickly leave me breathless,
With neither sight or sound.

But the memory of snowflakes,
Stays with me thoughout the years,
And comes at times of needed comfort,
To gently banish lonely tears.

I'm not old in years, my child  ~
Just, "not so young" today.
The age that fills my twisted face ~
Comes, not from times decay....
These lines you see about my eyes,
Are not from outward pain,
This comes from deep within a heart,
Destined to weep again.

The years toll slowly past my mind ~
The door to life is firm,
For how without a love, a life,
Or Lessons be unlearned?
For long ago I learned it well ~
What Father Time can do...
Not case the pain as some may think,
But tease, and torture you.
            Remembrance

So many days ago I watched,
My loved one leave my arms ~
So many tears ago I saw,
Her smile, so radiant - warm,
And felt again her hand in mine
And heard her whispered voice,
So long, so long ago I felt~
My happy heart rejoice.

Now, all I have is memories ~
And tears and burning sorrow,
And all I rise to greet today,
Is yesterday's tomorrow.
I wait each day for twilight close,
And they I say a prayer ~
"Dear Father, let her not forget,
To watch for me up there."
