Interview for DEATHTHRASHER MAGAZINE by ARMANDO MUTILATOR : 

DT: When and why the band was formed?.
MA: We started the band in 1998 exactely after I had left my old band because
of several problems. At this time the former guitar player of a German band named DAWN OF DREAMS was searching a band too, so we started to write songs. It was clear that the sound had to be brutal but melodic as well because both of us enjoy atmospheric leads as well. Actually we started playing gigs in 1999 after we had found people for the other instruments.

DT: Why the name of MENTAL AMPUTATION?.
MA: Well I don't know why I chose that name so I never know an answer when people ask me that one hahaha... but I guess it describes us good haha.. The chaos and MENTAL AMPUTATION inside us and the rest of the world.

DT: What topics do you consider in your lyrics?.
MA: The lyrics deal with fantasy and sociocritical themes such as war, religion or technology etc. We are not a Gore Band ! Neither Satanic !

DT: Your influences?.
MA: I'd say mainly Death Thrash bands which reigned in the early 90's and
earlier like PESTILENCE, SUFFOCATION,EDGE OF SANITY, DEATH, CARCASS, OBITUARY, AUTOPSY, CYNIC, CANCER, BOLT THROWER, SLAYER, TESTAMENT, KREATOR.... but bands like RUSH, DREAM THEATER, JOE SATRIANI, JAMES MURPHY projects and bands from the 70's 60's as well. For my part I mainly listen to DAN SWANÖ, SATRIANI, RUSH and other more quiet stuff at the moment, but that changes with my attitude!

DT: What do you know about South American Underground Scene?.
MA: Well I know there is some very brutal shit coming from over there haha ! I like that kind of music but I can't listen to it all day. I'd like to come on tour one day man !!!That would be a great experience I am very sure about that !

DT: Do you like STAR WARS?.
MA: Well... I'd say not bad but I can't see me as a fan , I'm more the fan of CONAN THE BARBARIAN or things like that in the fantasy corner but I also like funny or crazy things like A CLOCKWORK ORANGE for example.

DT: You're 10 faves German Metal albums from all the times?.
MA: KREATOR (Coma of sSouls), RUNNNING WILD (Death or Glory) SODOM (agent orange),KREATOR (Extreme Aggressions), HELLOWEEN (walls of Jericho) MORGOTH (Odium, Cursed , eternal Fall ),PROTECTOR (A shedding of skin)

DT: What do you think about extra-terrestrials? Do you believe in that?.
MA: Never heard of that word before man ???Tell me more

DT: Are you into S&M?.
MA: No, for my part no, sick shit yes, but S&M no

DT: Your musical productions?.
MA: Could be better, we are actually a little sad about that one, but we did an experience and I hope the next one will really KILL !!But it isn't that bad anyway.But you tell me, what do you think?

DT: Do you prefer DEATH or MORBID ANGEL?
MA: Can't answer that one !That's definitely a question that costs a lot of thinking over for nothing !!

DT: Tell me about your gig with FLESHCRAWL.
MA: The guys in FLESHCRAWL are people that we know over several years now and we meet each other on concerts and drink together.The concert we played with them was the release show for their album Soulskinner and was cool to play at ! In future I guess there will be more to play together I think, but we'll see.

DT: Do you know GERRE from TANKARD?
MA: Yes we played together some weeks ago ,he is a very funny guy that can drink like a man !

DT: Do you like GIGER's Art?.
MA: Yes he's cool ! But I prefer DAN SEAGRAVE Together, they are both too expensive for us with out a label big enough to afford covers of them. We have been in contact with DAN SEAGRAVE but I think this is not possible for us at the moment.

DT: Tell us about your "MASS CRISIS" (CD 2001).
MA: It is our first recording ever and besides the sound I can say that we are proud of having done it without any experience.we have also received almost only only positive responses, so it is a success for us.

DT: Are you into soccer? do you know about CLAUDIO PIZARRO?.
MA: No, I have never been into soccer cause it bores me a lot and I don't know anything about it.I have always been interested in music and this hobby has taken my time so far!

DT: PC or MACINTOSH? Do you know STEVE JOBS?.PC
MA: I never had a Macintosh, neither have I got experience in working with it. STEVE JOBS? HMMMMM I guess he has got something to do with computers hahaha

DT: Are you into PS2, GAMECUBE, X-BOX? or any VIDEO GAMES? Do you remember ATARI 2600?.
MA: Yeahh sometimes but I never was the guy hanging around at home in front of things like that for a long time but I'd say our Drummer Kay is one of those! But it can be entertaining from time to time.

DT: Are you into drugs?.
MA: Well we do drink "a lot" but I wouldn't say "into drugs "how does that sound haha? MENTAL AMPUTATION haha

DT: You’re future plans?.
MA: At the moment we have to find a new bass player because our old one has left us cause of time problems with his jobs,that's why our recording session was cancelled too and know we need a new date to enter the studio to record our new album. The songs are finished and we could have been finished but that's the way life goes man !!More I'd say finding a suitable label to release it would be cool, so Labels get in contact !!

DT: Any last comment for your most brutal fans?.
