HI Armando, Please find below the answers to your
questions, cheers,

Dave.

DT: Hello DAVE, How are you?.
Dave Evans :
I'm fine and looking forward to heading out of Australia and back to Europe at the end of July for the Big Ball ACDC convention in North Wales at the beginning of August.

DT:
Are you natural from Carmarthen Wales?.
Dave Evans :
Yes I was born in Carmarthen and the family emigrated to Australia when I was still a small boy.

DT:
How old are you DAVE?.
Dave Evans :
This is a puzzle for your readers. I am one year older than MALCOLM YOUNG and three years older than ANGUS YOUNG but younger than BRIAN JOHNSON.

DT: What memories do your first band in North Qeensland?
Dave Evans :
It was exciting and nervous to do my first gig ever with In Session, the band's name, in a small town in North Queensland called CHARTERS TOWERS. I was 16 years old and just stood there and sang my heart out while the guitarist who was older and experienced, introduced all the songs. The audience thought the band was great and I was relieved at the end of the show. We went on to play at the local hotels and clubs plus school gigs before I left to go down to Sydney and try the big time.

DT:
Who put the name of AC/DC? MALCOM and SANDRA YOUNG?.
Dave Evans :
It was SANDRA, elder brother GEORGE's wife who came up with the name.

DT:
Do you know the all YOUNG Bro?.
Dave Evans :
Yes. ANGUS and MALCOLM was in ACDC with me and GEORGE YOUNG produced our first recordings along with HARRY VANDA.

DT:
What can you talk me abou your experience supported to STEVIE WRIGHT and LOU REED?.
Dave Evans :
It was after our record CAN I SIT NEXT TO YOU GIRL? started to race up the charts that we went on an Australian national tour starting at the Sydney Opera House and did many gigs with STEVIE WRIGHT who had a national number one with the song EVIE and we also supported LOU REED in Melbourne and Adelaide. We really made a huge impression and stole the shows.

DT: Where and how you knew to MALCOM YOUNG?. Do you know his old band BELZEBUB BLUES?.
Dave Evans :
No I have never heard of that band. He was a guitarist in popular Sydney band VELVET UNDERGROUND and had left the band along with their singer when I auditioned for them and joined. I soon heard about MALCOLM from the other members who liked him as there was no hard feelings when he left. After VELVET UNDERGROUND split up - the other members joined TED MULRY who had been a solo artist and now had a couple of number one hits to his name - I answered an ad in the newspapers looking for a solid rock singer and MALCOLM YOUNG answered. He had heard of me from the members of his old band VELVET UNDERGROUND and he told me he was putting a new band together and to come over for a jam. I did of course and was introduced to the other two guys, COLIN BURGESS and LARRY VAN KRIEDT and we shook hands and formed a band even though we didn't have a name as yet. MALCOLM asked us a week later if his younger brother ANGUS could audition as his band KENTUCKEE had split up. We said ok and ANGUS auditioned a week later and he then joined to make it five members.

DT:
ANGUS YOUNG played on KENTUCKEE and TANTRUM, do you know this bands?.
Dave Evans :
I have never heard about his band TANTRUM but knowing ANGUS that sounds about right.

DT:
Tell me about the original AC/CD's line - up, who are COLIN BURGESS (Drums) and LARRY van KRIEDT (Bass)???... LARRY play the saxophone too, he plays the saxo on AC/DC !!!...?.
Dave Evans :
COLIN BURGESS was the former drummer of the famous Australian band THE MASTER'S APPRENTACES who had been big in the sixties but LARRY was a local Sydney musicians who I had never met before. Even though he apparently did play sax as well as bass I never heard him play it and he only ever played the bass with us.

DT: Well, who are NOEL TAYLOR (Drums) and NEIL SMITH (Bass)?
Dave Evans :
After COLIN and then soon after Larry was sacked by MALCOLM, NOEL and NEIL were recruited from a local Sydney band and played with us for a couple of months only before they too were sacked. They do have the honour, however, of being in the band when ANGUS performed in his schoolboy uniform for the first time as previously we had performed in jeans etc.

DT:
What can you tell me about ROB BAILEY (Bass) and PETER CLACK (Drums)?.
Dave Evans :
ROB and PETER replaced NEIL and NOEL after they were sacked. Rob and Peter were playing in Sydney band FLAKE who had gigged with us at the Victoria Park open-air concert, where ANGUS wore his schoolboy uniform for the first time, MALCOLM took them aside and asked them to join as he had already decided to sack NEIL an NOEL. I had no idea of what was going on until MALCOLM had told me what he had done again.

DT:
MARK EVANS is your brother?, he plays in any band now?. He receive any kind of royalties of AC/DC?.
Dave Evans :
MARK is no relation of mine and he replaced ROB BAILEY after HE was sacked. He played on a few albums and I don't know about any royalty arrangements that he had with ACDC.

DT: What was the actual reason regarding your departure from AC/DC?
Dave Evans :
We were all very young and I am not one to be pushed around or bullied. There were ego battles and jealousies from the YOUNG brothers about my popularity with the girls and I would not be intimidated because of all the sackings and power struggles around me. I was a founding member of the band but MALCOLM and ANGUS and brother GEORGE wanted full control as they have today.

DT:
DAVE, who was your first replace, the Manager DENNIS LAUGHLIN or BON SCOTT?.
Dave Evans :
DENNIS LAUGHLIN did not replace me. He was our Manager at the time of my split and as we were working hard sometimes up to 3 gigs per day, my voice finally gave out and instead of canceling gigs LAUGHLIN got up and jammed with the boys for two of our gigs until my voice came back. I was really pissed off but Dennis and I had had a huge row only weeks before about pay whilst on tour. BON SCOTT who was a big fan of the band was the singer who replaced me. He was a lot older than us as he had been a star in the 60's and a friend of older brother GEORGE and was at that time washed up. He took this chance with both hands and did a great job.

DT: Which one do you think is the best AC/DC album with BON SCOTT?
Dave Evans :
I don't really know as I don't have any ACDC albums. I know of their hits of course as I heard them on the radio and saw the film clips. I do have favourite songs like IT'S A LONG WAY TO THE TOP, TNT and RIDE ON.

DT:
Tell us about the original HIT SINGLE "CAN I SIT NEXT TO YOU GIRL".
Dave Evans :.
The song was different to the heavy rock that we were playing. It was written by MALCOLM and was quite boppy. It took off almost as soon as it was released and is still a favourite around the world today.

DT:
Do you like CHUCK BERRY?.
Dave Evans :
Where would rock be without the great CHUCK BERRY?

DT:
Which was your relation with GEORGE YOUNG and HARRY VANDA?. (The first Producers of AC/DC)?.
Dave Evans :
I got on very well with both of them and held them in high esteem.

DT: What can you talk me about "ROCKIN IN THE PARLOUR"?.
Dave Evans :
This was another song of MALCOLM's.

DT:
Do you have the recordings from old times with your voice of "ROCK 'N' ROLL SINGER", "SOUL STRIPPER" and "BABY PLEASE DON'T GO"?
Dave Evans :
No unfortunately although there is a very bad live tape of us and you can here “Soul Stripper” and “Rock n Roll Singer” very faintly in the background.

DT:
What do you think of BRIAN JOHNSON’s; work with AC/DC?
Dave Evans :
He has been with them successfully for over 20 years. There is nothing more to be said is there?

DT: What do you think of BON and BRIAN’s performances of the songs from the old times? Who do you think is better?
Dave Evans :
I guess that every fan has there favourite of the three singes including myself. I toured Germany, Austria and Switzerland last year and fans had a chance to see and hear me live as well. It was interesting to hear what they said to me after my performances.

DT:
Is BRIAN JOHNSON a friend of yours?.
Dave Evans :
I have never met him.

DT:
When BON SCOTT died, did MALCOM and ANGUS. approach you to rejoin?.
Dave Evans :
No that was never an option.

DT: Is it true that in your teenage years besides singing in Rock bands, you worked as a Porno Actor?.
Dave Evans :
No that's stupid. I did act in a few films during the 80's but they were R rated with some steamy lovemaking scenes but it was not the real thing - forget it!

DT:
Were you into Punk Rock? What do you think of the Punk Rock Scene of the Late 70’s?.
Dave Evans :.
No I was never into Punk Rock. Those guys could never play a decent lead guitar solo.

DT:
Nowadays, are you friends with the guys of AC/DC?.
Dave Evans :
I am still friend with COLIN BURGESS and NEIL SMITH and NOEL TAYLOR. I have never seen Larry since he was sacked and I have met MARK EVANS a couple of times and get on well with him.

DT: What can you tell us about your band RABBIT?. Which album was the most successful? Who designed the RABBIT logo?.
Dave Evans :
RABBIT was a very wild rock band full of energy and cheek. We had a great following and no band in Australia was game to play after us as they would have died with the audience. The guys are still great mates of mine to this day. TOO MUCH ROCK N ROLL was the more successful album of the two with the first album RABBIT selling only moderately well. CBS records had the logo designed after I wanted something that could be made into badges etc for the fan.

DT:
The original HIT SINGLE, "CANT I SIT NEXT TO YOU GIRL" . Is this material still available?.
Dave Evans :
The original vinyl single is now worth a fortune on ebay. You can get it on a few bootleg CDs.

DT: Which one do you consider your best recording with AC/DC?.
Dave Evans :
ROCK N ROLL SINGER and SOUL STRIPPER were great and it was still not decided which was to be the follow up single. Now the fans will probably never hear them.

DT:
Do you know PAUL DIANNO, IRON MAIDEN’s first singer?.
Dave Evans :.
No but when I had my band DAVE EVANS AND HOT COCKEREL in Melbourne they did come to one of my performances but I left after the gig as I did not know they were at the bar.

DT:
Is it true that every time the fans sees you, they tells you that you’re the best and real singer of AC/DC?.
Dave Evans :
I have my fans as well as Bon and Brian.

DT: Are you a close friend of CLIFF WILLIAMS?
Dave Evans :
I have never met him.

DT:
Of all the Tribute to AC/DC albums that you have taken part in, which one has given you the most satisfaction?.
Dave Evans :
I only did one live CD which was a recognition of BON SCOTT's part in the ACDC story. It was on the 20th anniversary of his death and I was invited to sing with local Melbourne ACDC tribute band THUNDERSTRUCK.
I was living in Sydney at the time. I accepted but then though that this would be an historic occasion and that fans would love to have this recorded. I asked the boys from THUNDERSTRUCK to organsise a recording of the show and after I heard it I called the CD A HELL OF A NIGHT. When I performed with Munich ACDC cover band last year I did a mixture of the songs that I performed with ACDC originally plus some RABBIT songs and a few of BON SCOTTs big hits.

DT: Do you receive any kind of royalties when AC/DC performs a song in which you were part of the composition?.
Dave Evans :
I have never received one royalty payment ever from ACDC.

DT:
Tell us about the BIG BALL - AC/DC TRIBUTE CONVENTION 2004 please.
Dave Evans :
The Big Ball is a three day/night ACDC convention in North Wales Uk on the 6th 7th and *th of August. I was invited to be the main act and as I was born in Wales I was very excited about appearing before not only ACDC fans from around the world but to so many of my former country men and women.

DT: What are your future plans?.
Dave Evans :
I have just recorded a new CD of all original songs written mostly by myself or MARK TINSON - guitarist from RABBIT. MARK also produced the CD. I am about to sign with a German record label for world release and it will be available later this year.

DT:
Any last comments to the readers of DEATHTHRASHER MAGAZINE?.
Dave Evans :
I hope that someday I can get to South America and of course to Peru as I have friends in Australia who have been and say that I must go as well. They tell me that you know how to Rock! I hope to see you all one day. In the meantime visit my website at www.daveevans.au.com, cheers,
