Interview for DEATHTHRASHER MAGAZINE by ARMANDO MUTILATOR :

Hi ARMANDO!

Here is the HATESPHERE interview for DEATHTHRASHER MAGAZINE, hope it is fine!

It was great to talk to someone from South America, hope you are fine over there. If you have anymore questions regarding HATE SPHERE then just mail me, and I will answer them.

Metallic greetings

Peter/HateSphere

DT: When and why the band was formed?.
HS :
We was formed back in 1993 mainly because we liked Metal and wanted to see if we could make some music of our own. Slowly though we got better and better and after some line-up changes and three demos we changed our name to HATESPHERE. We have released two full length albums, "HateSphere" (2001) and "Bloodred Hatred" (2002) and we have a new one coming up here in July 2004 called "Ballet of the brute". On top of that we also released the mini album "Something old, something new, something borrowed and something black" in December 2003!

DT:
Why do you change the name of NECROSIS for HATE SPHERE?.
HS :
We thought the old name sounded too old school for the music we wanted to make, and on top of that we simply thought it sounded like crap! So we wanted to get a band name that would fit the atmosphere of the music, and we did…

DT: What can you talk me about your NECROSIS "Condemned Future" (April 1995), this is the one and only piece in your career with CLAUS NIELSEN on vocals.
HS :
It was our first time ever recording music, so it has got a special place in my heart… but the music isn't that good though, he he, but it's funny!!! We played more old school death metal at that time and didn't have that many fast parts in our songs… and on top of that our singer sounded like crap (hope he doesn't read this…)

DT: Do you like ILLDISPOSED?.
HS :
I used to but I don´t think they´re good nowadays! They have made some excellent albums like "Submit" and "Four depressive seasons" but I don´t like their new stuff!

DT:
You're fave beer?
HS :
TUBORG and CERES TOP (both Danish beers…)

DT:
Why CLAUS NIELSEN left the band?.
HS :
At that time he didn't have the same enthusiasm about the band as the rest of us and most important of all he didn't have the talent for it.. So it was good for us to get a new singer!

DT:
Tell me about "Dissconected" (October 1997), the first NECROSIS production with JACOB BREDALH on vocals.
HS :
We got JACOB on vocals and he is (as you might know) still in the band. At that demo we started to experiment more with our sound and turned up the pace… that means that it was the first demo where we played faster songs.

DT:
Your best Danish band from ever?.
HS :
HATE SPHERE of course!!! Others can be the old (and new) Invocator stuff!!

DT:
Do you like the old Heavy Metal?.
HS :
Some of it, yes! I like OZZY and old DEF LEPPARD and stuff like that… MOTLEY CRUE, almost forgot them!!!

DT:
What do you think about ELIPHAS LEVY?.
HS :
Don't know, ´cause I have never heard about them!!

DT: Are you friends with PER MOLLER JENSEN?.
HS :
No, we have toured with THE HAUNTED here in Europe but it´s not like that we are friends with them… we have just played with them.

DT:
Do you know who is Reverend AL SHARPTON?.
HS :
No…

DT:
What do you think about the new INVOCATOR?.
HS :
I think, it´s great! Even though I like their old stuff just a little bit more…

DT:
What can you talk me about the last NECROSIS production "Spring 98" (May 1998)?.
HS :
This release shows us on the verge of finding the style that we play today. The songs are faster and more melodic… simply just much better than the other demos we had done at that time. Some of the tracks on this album has actually been used for bonus tracks on the American and Japanese releases of "HateSphere" and "Bloodred Hatred"!

DT: Are you satisfied with "Hellcreation" (Promo CD - R - December 2002)?.
HS :
I don´t quite know what you´re talking about… I have never made a demo called "Hellcreation" … but I guess it´s good…

DT:
What is the gender of PIKACHU?.
HS :
Male…

DT:
Do you like SACRIFICIAL and GERONIMO?.
HS :
Not quite actually… I thought Geronimo was kinda exciting but not really good… Sacrificial are ok but not quite my cup of tea in the long run!

DT:
Are you into drugs?.
HS :
Not especially, not hard drugs anyhow!!

DT:
Do you remember DESEXULT?.
HS :
Yeah, ESBEN (their guitar player) plays in a band called Barcode together with our singer, JACOB, so I know them! I really haven't heard the music because I must have been around 6 years old or something at the time where DESEXULT was playing but I have heard lots of things about them! Amazing that you know them… here in Aarhus they are the most cult thing you can find…

DT:
What do you think about ANTON SZANDOR LA VEY?.
HS :
I don´t really think that much about him! He is probably an alright guy he he, he believes in something and others believe in something else… I'm not really that interested in that… but of course we all love Satan, right?

DT:
Are you into INNER CIRCLE?. Tell us about the Anti Semitic Community.
HS :
Don't know what you are talking about!! Is Inner Circle a band or the Norwegian Black Metal Inner Circle? Despite all that I am not into Inner Circle, but could someone please tell me what it is, he he!!

DT: Do you like drink Vodka with piss?.
HS :
My favourite….

DT:
Do you like AC/DC?.
HS :
Of course I do!!! Great band, always good for a party!

DT:
Do you have STAR WARS action figures?.
HS :
Unfortunately not, no!! But if you want I can get you some very cheap…

DT:
What can you talk me about your first poduction with the name of HATE SPHERE, "HateSphere" (Released April 2001 by SCARLET RECORDS). Tell us about this great debut with the new name, and about the JACOB HANSEN work in this production.
HS :
Well, we got in contact with JACOB HANSEN because we did a song (Addicted soul) for a compilation CD called "Extremity's Rising" which JACOB HANSEN released on his label, SERIOUS ENTERTAINMENT. He loved our music and got us a record deal, and in March 2000 we recorded the "HateSphere"-album in Aabenraa Studios in Denmark, with JACOB HANSEN producing it… a great guy to work with by the way, we had fun, and he understood our sense of humour, he he. But after the recordings the label went broke, and we had to look for a new label to release our album. JACOB helped us a lot and we finally got in contact with SCARLET RECORDS from Italy who totally loved the music. We signed a deal with them, and finally in April 2001 our debut album was released in Europe and Japan. On this album we also introduced two new members, MIKAEL on bass and ZIGGY on guitars.

DT: Tell us about "HateSphere" (SOUNDHOLIC, Japanese Edition) and about the tack "Restrain" taken from the NECROSIS "Spring '98" Demo.
HS :
The Japanese version of our debut album was released a month or so before the European version got out, and we had to give the Japanese some bonus tracks. We had the start track from our "Spring ´98"- Demo, and even though the sound was as good as on the album, we decided to use it for bonus track. On top of that we also thought it would be great fun for people to listen to some old NECROSIS tracks on the album…

DT:
Talk me about your experience on "Extremity Rising - Vol. 4" (Compilation 99).
HS :
As I told you before, then this was done a year before we recorded the debut album, and at that time (1999) we were still called NECROSIS. The track we did (Addicted soul) was also on the "HateSphere"-album though we recorded it again. Before we made our appearance on the "Extremity Rising"-compilation practically none knew about us but afterwards we got a record deal and have kicked ass ever since. This version of "Addicted soul" was also used as a bonus track for the Japanese version of "Bloodred Hatred", our second album!

DT:
Are you friends with JAKOB SCHULTZ?.
HS :
No, I know him by name and because he was a member of INVOCATOR a long time ago but I don't know him personally at all!!!

DT: What can you tell me about your "Bloodred Hatred" (Released 2002 by SCARLET RECODS)?… and about the different editions on SOUNDHOLIC and CENTURY MEDIA?… tell me about the Bonus Tracks.
HS :
"Bloodred Hatred" was our second album which was recorded in May/June 2002 in Jailhouse Studios in Horsens, Denmark. This time we used Tommy Hansen (PRETTY MAIDS, HELLOWEEN, ILLDISPOSED) as a producer, because we wanted a different sound than all the other bands in Denmark, and he did a great job. The recordings was pretty relaxing, and the result was that we made a damn good record. In comparison with our debut album the music was more Melodic Thrash than melodic death and the tempo was turned up a bit! The music was more extreme in that sense that the brutal parts were more brutal and the melodic parts were more melodic. The response on the album was amazing, and people all over the world started to open their eyes to us. Again the album was released in Japan through SOUNDHOLIC and the bonus tracks on this album was a demo version of "Addicted Soul" from the debut album and the track "Under Water" from the Spring '98-demo. In May 2003 CENTURY MEDIA RECORDS released the album in North America, this time again with the bonus track "Under Water" and then "Grace" from our Spring '98 - Demo. After the recordings of this album we got a new guitar player, Heinz, from fellow Danish Death Metallers, KOLDBORN. In January we started the live promotion of the album which amongst others got us a tour with THE HAUNTED and Mastodon 30 days through Europe in April 2003.

DT:
Do you like the Dutch Death Thrash Gods DEADHEAD?.
HS :
Have never heard their music…

DT: Tell me about "Something old, something new, something borrowed and something black" (Released 2003 by SCARLET RECORDS), tell us about the covers, ANTHRAX "Caught in a Mosh" and OZZY OSBOURNE's "Bark at the Moon".
HS :
This release was meant as a little teaser before we would release our next full length album and on the same time it was also the first release with our new drummer, ANDERS GYLDENØHR, and before-mentioned HEINZ on guitar. We recorded one new killer track, "Release the Pain", the two cover tracks and four live tracks from a show in our hometown Aarhus in March 2003! This was recorded and mixed at the ANTFARM STUDIOS, Aarhus, together with producer TUE MADSEN, who actually also was the man responsible for producing the old NECROSIS - Demo, "Disconnected '97"… but that is a long time since, he he! The cover tracks of OZZY and ANTHRAX was something that we had wanted to do for quite a while, and we wanted to make them sound like HATE SPHERE songs, not just like the originals. That's why we speeded up the OZZY song, so that you almost can't hear that it is his song.. now it sound more like a HATE SPHERE song and that's how you should do cover songs… make them sound like your own band!

DT:
What do you think about ALEISTER CROWLEY, do you read THE BOOK OF THE LAW?.
HS :
I don't know… I haven't really read that many books, and I know for certain that I haven't read any of his… but I would actually like to!

DT:
Tell us all about your last album "Ballet of the Brute", and about the JACOB HANSEN participation on this album please.
HS :
We have actually just finished the recording and mixing of this album here in the beginning of March. Again this time we used producer TOMMY HANSEN and his JAILHOUSE STUDIOS, mainly because we were very satisfied with the job he did on the "Bloodred Hatred"-album. This time the songs still sound like HATE SPHERE but I think we are more angry and brutal on this album, without forgetting the melodic pieces now and then. The album is going to consist of 10 absolute killer tracks, and on the track "Warhead" you will hear a guest appearance by JACOB HANSEN, singer and guitar player in INVOCATOR, and producer of the first HATE SPHERE album. The album will be released on June 7th in Europe through SCARLET RECORDS and also in Japan through SOUNDHOLIC RECORDS and in North America through CENTURY MEDIA RECORDS. Any more places will be announced when they come up! We are very excited about this album and till now we already have two European Summer festivals plus a support tour for EXODUS around Europe. In the fall we will again tour Europe before we hope to be able to visit USA or Japan…

DT:
Your last growl for DEATHTHRASHER readers?.
