The relatively calm NHL free-agency season rippled Tuesday
with center Craig Conroy choosing the Los Angeles Kings
over a return to the Blues, while Blues winger Scott Mellanby
awaits an offer from Florida and winger Brett Hull nears
a meeting this week with Dallas.
Dallas seems the most likely fit.
"It's a slow process for everyone this summer,"
Hull said. "I think I can be a little bit choosy. I
can quit tomorrow and know I've had a great career and that
I've made enough money for a couple lifetimes. But I have
some goals I'd still like to meet."
"I have a home here, I played here before, I have friends
here," Hull told the Post-Dispatch.
One goal in particular: No. 800.
Hull, 39, who is 59 goals shy of the benchmark, just completed
his third season with Detroit, where he won a Stanley Cup
to go with the one won with the Stars. During a recent charity
softball game in Dallas, he suffered a torn muscle. He said
the injury is fine; he's "back on the bike."
