The 6-1, 216-pound right wing tallied his only goal of the season on Jan. 23 vs. St. Louis. The goal proved to be the game-winner, the second of his career.

Signed by Dallas as a free agent on July 3, 2002, Downey has played in 80 games with the Stars over the past two seasons. In those 80 games, he has registered two goals and two assists for four points with 146 penalty minutes.

Over his NHL career, Downey has appeared in 120 contests with Boston (1999-00), Chicago (2000-02) and Dallas (2002-present). The Shelburne, Ontario, native has collected three goals and two assists for five points with 228 penalty minutes over his career. In his five seasons in the AHL from 1997-2002, Downey appeared in 279 games and accumulated 1,284 penalty minutes.
