June
seems to be a very very busy time for General Manager Doug
Armstrong, as he has begun putting the team together for the
2004-05 team, one-by-one. On Thursday, Armstrong announced
the re-signing of two key players for the hockey club -- center
Jason Arnott and defenseman Jon Klemm.
Arnott signed a one-year deal with the Stars while Klemm was
inked to a two-year contract with a club option for a third
year.
Klemm, with his veteran leadership and experience proved very
valuable to the team as the Stars turned their season around
and became one of the best teams in the league during the
season half of the year. While Jason
Arnott led the Stars in assists (36) and plus/minus (+23),
while finishing second in points (57) and game-winners (5),
and fourth in goals (21). I remember last season, esspecially
at home he was the most dominating player on the ice, when
he recorded his fifth career hat trick on Feb. 20 vs. Colorado.
In that game, besides the three goals, he collected five
shots, a +2 rating, a power play tally, the game-winning
goal and won 11 of 18 face-offs. When he played well, the
Stars won. Last season Dallas went 15-1-2-0 when Jason Arnott
scored a goal.
The three signings will give the Stars 14
players from last year's club who are currently under contract
for the 2004-05 season (Jason Arnott, Stu Barnes, Philippe
Boucher, Rob DiMaio, Bill Guerin, Jon Klemm, Jere Lehtinen,
Mike Modano, Brenden Morrow, Steve Ott, Don Sweeney, Marty
Turco, Pierre Turgeon, Sergei Zubov).
