Hi! I'm Annis H. Hopkins, Ph.D., teacher, adventurer, and grandmother. Here's the short version of my life. I grew up on a farm in southern Illinois, where I live now. After a pretty typical farm-girl, tomboy childhood (with some not entirely typical results), I earned the B.A. in music from Greenville College, in Greenville, IL, the Master's in the Teaching of English from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and the Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Rhetoric and Composition from Arizona State University as well as a Certificate of Concentration in Women's Studies. Over a 35 year teaching career, I've taught at the middle school, high school, community college, and university levels. I taught Women's Studies at ASU the longest, from 1986 to 1999; I was also the Program's Academic Advisor and Web Weaver.

During the 1999-2000 academic year, I was a faculty fellow in the English Department at Rio Salado College in Tempe, Arizona, where I taught, mentored adjunct faculty, served as co-coordinator for writing and critical thinking competencies, and did curriculum/course development. I have some web goodies "up" there as well. You can visit our writing assistance site. I am now an Adjunct Faculty member for Rio Salado, teaching ENH251 (Introduction to Mythology) online.

My other web adventures include some volunteer work for the Bond County Senior Center and for The Greenville United Methodist Church.

I now teach full-time at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville where I have an academic web site.

In my leisure time, I enjoy spending time in Arizona with my daughter and five grandchildren, and reading, hiking, taking pictures, writing, and doing spiritual growth work.

River Trip

One of my favorite adventures ever was a float trip down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon in June 1997. There are more photos from that trip here. You can also read about my trip.
