School Personnel Selection and Evaluation

This course was designed to offer opportunities related to the selection and evaluation of school personnel and to demonstrate the understanding and skills needed to perform these tasks within the current educational environment. The following questions were developed as partial fulfillment of the course requirements. They demonstrate an understanding of the rationale used in regards to the employee selection process.

Interview Questions

Question #1: What do you see as the advantages and disadvantages of working with a Title I population?

Interviewer Expectation: This question would provide the interviewer with information about the interviewees awareness of the special needs of Title I populations, their ability to set high expectations despite at-risk factors, their realistic understanding of the needs of students of poverty and any negative perceptions they may have in relation to the population.

Question #2: What are specific personal and professional skills you will bring to the team?

Interviewer Expectation: The interviewer will be able to assess the interviewees’ self-awareness in regards to their strengths as well as the interviewees’ perceptions of their own skills.

Question #3: What do you see as the top three elements of an effective classroom management plan?

Interviewer Expectation: This question allows the interviewer to determine the interviewees’ philosophy of discipline as well as their ability to identify specific elements of an effective discipline plan.

Question #4: What is your understanding of the new Georgia Performance Standards as they relate to your position?

Interviewer Expectation: The interviewer will be able to assess the interviewees’ knowledge of current curriculum standards as well as their level of understanding regarding curriculum and instruction as it pertains to their specific field.

Question #5: What is a specific instructional activity you have implemented and how did you differentiate learning so that all groups were successful?

Interviewer Expectation: This question enables the interviewer to assess the interviewees’ knowledge of curriculum, individual student needs and ability to plan appropriate lessons.

Question #6: Are you familiar with the research based best practice Learning Focused Strategies designed by Max Thompson? If yes, how do you feel about the concept?

Interviewer Expectation: This question assesses the interviewees’ understanding of best practices as well as their understanding of specific curriculum strategy currently in place within the system. In addition, it will enable the interviewer to assess the interviewees’ research about and knowledge of the system/school for which they are applying.
