Clothes Links
The following are some of my favorite links to clothing websites. As a tall women or girl, it is difficult to find clothes that fit correctly. These links are to some online stores where you can find larger inseams and longer cut clothes.

  • Alloy online shop has a great selection of jeans, dress pants and khakis in sizes 0-29 and 34", 35" and 37" inseams! This is personally my favorite online place to shop for pants because of the larger sizes and 37" inseam jeans. They offer a great variety and incorporate all the new styles that tall teenagers had previously not been able to find. This company is far ahead of any other teenage clothes supplier in terms of realizing all teens do not wear a size 8, 32" inseam.
  • Tall Classics by Tall ETC. is a great online shop for both teenage girls and women. Their products range from athletic clothing to business suits for the office. The sizes run from 6-24 with 36" inseams. I recommend this site for good quality clothing and great styles. Some unique products they offer include long bathrobes, large size slippers, and large size socks and hosiery.
  • J.Crew online shop offers classic women's clothing in sizes 2-16 and inseams run up to 34". This site is very trendy, with a lot of the latest styles, but also incorporates the everyday comfortable clothing. The prices reflect the high quality of the clothes, but if you are looking for that perfect 34" inseam fit, I would definitely recommend this site.
  • Gap online offers the well-known brand name clothes, at decent prices. I recommend this site for tall women looking for jeans or pants. The Gap has a unique style and offers clothes that are a necessity to any wardrobe. My favorite is the comfortable flare-leg jeans which run up to size 18 with extra long inseams.
  • Lerner Catalog is another one of my favorite stores offering clothes for tall women. This site has a wide selection, offering clothes ranging from dresses, jeans and business outfits, to shoes and jackets. Some good attributes to the site include the clearance section, the trendy clothes and great business casual career clothing options.
  • One Hanes Place is the online store to shop at for underwear, bras and hosiery for women of all sizes. I absolutely love the wide selection of sizes available, ranging from petite to plus size for hosiery, and bra cup sizes from 34A-50G. They make it so easy to find the size you need, why would you want to go anywhere else?
  • Lane Bryant online shopping is a great source for tall women's sizes starting from 14W and also offers large size shoes. My favorite thing about this store is that they focus on making the larger and taller women look sexy. They offer plus size lingerie, clothes for the office, trendy outfits, and additional length inseams for tall women.

Footwear Links
As a tall women, it is often true that you will have what society would term as "big feet." I am 6'1" and wear a size 12W shoe. While I have often had to settle for wearing a stylish men's shoe or sneaker in the past, I have since come across some stores that cater to large feet, and find it necessary to share these findings with fellow tall women that I know must be suffering from similar shoe dilemmas.

  • Payless ShoeSource online could perhaps be a tall woman's best friend. They offer up to size 13W in womens shoes, and are relatively inexpensive compared to some other large-size shoe stores. This is my favorite shoe store and I highly recommend it because of the great selection in styles. They offer sandals, work shoes, dress shoes, sneakers... you name it.
  • Shoebuy.com is a great online shop where tall women can find large size shoes, and at the same time also find shoes for the men, teenagers, and children in their families. This site effectively combines shoe shopping for the whole family, which is definitely a time saver. They offer women's shoes of all styles and sizes up to 15 extra wide.
  • Silhouettes is another great online store, which combines women's plus size clothing with a great selection of large size shoes. The prices reflect the high quality of the products. The women's shoes are available in sizes up to 13 extra wide. I recommend shopping at the site because of the wide selection and great styles available.

Health Links
It is very important for women of all sizes to be in good health. Below, I have included a few of my favorite links that emphasize the importance of maintaining a healthy body.

  • Ideal Body Weight Calculator This site provides a form to fill out your height and it gives you your ideal body weight in pounds. The calculator works for people of height 4'-6'11". Compared to most body weight charts, which cut off before tall heights, I think the majority of tall women will find that this calculator works well. By having an idea of what your ideal body weight should be, women can get an educated opinion as to whether they need to change their eating and exercise habits to gain or loose weight. Tall women can have various growth problems, and distorted body image, so sites such as this are very important to keeping women healthy.
  • DES prescription drug prescribed to stunt growth of young girls considered to be "too tall." This is an article by Nora Cody from her series "First Do No Harm: A Consumer Health Advocates Cautionary Tales." This is a story of people deciding how tall children should be, addressing issues such as whether tall children will fit in with their peers. I highly recommend reading this article in order to better understand the devastating side effects of not allowing nature to take its course.
  • Marfan Syndrome is a genetic condition that causes abnormally tall stature. This link to the National Marfan Foundation Fact Sheet describes what the disease is, how it is diagnosed, and then treated. The reason I have included this link is to further educate tall women about the health issues facing other tall men and women. The more we know and understand as a society, the more accepting of other people we can be.
  • Klinefelter's syndrome is another genetic disorder in which a boy is born with female defects. At puberty, the boys body matures to a female environment. This link is to David Brager's website in which he tells his personal story, "I'm not fat, I'm Deformed: Klinefelter's Syndrome & Me." I highly recommend reading this story because it is a touching story that everyone can learn from. I particularly believe that tall women will be able to relate to the feeling of being abnormal, and dealing with how society treats you.

Confidence Links
Along with maintaining a healthy body, it is of great importance for tall women, whom often do not fit in exactly with their peers, to maintain a healthy frame of mind. It is all too often that young girls are unhappy in their lives because they are larger or taller than other kids. Kids may poke fun at other kids that stick out of the group, and I have provided below a few links that I believe do a good job of increasing confidence and maintaining a healthy frame of mind.

  • Building Confidence is a great website for teens. This page is cute, yet greatly effective. The aim is at building confidence and seeing the beauty in yourself and others. I enjoyed reading this site, and recommend it as a tool for building self-respect and acceptance, whether you are a child, teen, or grown woman. The site takes a very down to earth approach to getting the message of self love and respect through to today's teens.
  • Sandy Allen says "It's OK to be Different". This is a link to an article from Education World on a 7' 7 1/4" tall woman named Sally Allen. The article is about Sally explaining her own life growing up, and telling kids that it is ok to be different. I highly recommend reading this article and further researching Sally Allen and her appearances, because she does a great job of showing kids how to laugh about their differences, and how to get past the disadvantages of being extremely tall.

  • This is a link to celebritypictures.com, providing many pictures of Brooke Shields, a beautiful model/actress measuring 6' tall.
