Fall Fantasy
Fall is a wonderful time of year and so much fun for the children. Since we began our fall theme the week before fall began, I created a fall fantasy in the drama centre for the kids.
I started off by cutting about 150 constuction paper leaves of all shapes and sizes. (I have the blisters to show for it!) I also have some fall leaf garland strung across the room on the fish line, and on the window sill.
I added some of the leaves to the trees that we used in our campground and left the rest for raking, throwing and jumping in.
I also wanted to as some other things commonly found in fall so I added some fall fruits and vegetables. The apples that are hanging on the tree (which I realize doesn't have apple tree leaves on it!) are Christmas tree ornaments that I picked up at the dollar store. I also added assorted gourds (again from the dollar store though once I can find them in the grocery store I will bring in real ones.) The kids made some clouds with grey construction paper and cotton balls, as fall is a "grey" time of year.
For the final touch I made a stalk of corn. For this I used a wrapping paper tube covered in green bristol board. I cut long leaves out of the bristol board and attached them around the tube with packing tape (it holds better than regular scotch tape)
To make the corn I covered toilet roll tubes with yellow construction paper and drew kernals on with brown marker. Finally I added some of the green stalk leaves for the husks and used packing tape to attach it to the stalk.
It was time consuming to make the corn but I think it's a nice added touch. The children can now harvest their fruits and vegetables, have leaf fights and do their "yard work".
