Since the beginning of recorded Military History, elite forces have been required to perform missions that were above and beyond the capability of the rank and file soldier. The Ancient Romans had Legion One Italica, the Carthaginians had Hannibal and his armoured corp of elephants. In more modern times, the famed Gurka Rifles Regiment of Great Britain and the Special Air Services. America's Navy Seals and Green Beret regiments were amongst the most famous and public but always they were units that operated behind the scenes, unthanked, undocumented and utterly devastating.
As mankind moved into space and technology changed, the variable configuration fighter, the Valkyrie went with mankind as his defensive and offensive tool. In 2044 funding was provided to outfit and train a group of highly motivated and skilled men and women, drawn from every branch of the service - the best of the best and thus the Black Omens were born.
As the Black Omens are an unofficial unit, their existence is unknown. Black Omen pilots do not wear their distinctive unit patch unless on a specific mission, though the insignia is on the majority of their space craft. Instead, Black Omen pilots wear the uniforms and insignia of M-15's training squadron, communications technicians, shuttle pilots and engineers. Always invisible while remaining within plain sight. The Squadron Commander, General Lee Hastings is also the C.A.G. (Commander, Air Group) for the M-15 colony mission.
