From time immemorial, dragons have invaded the dreams of humans. What is it about dragons that so grabs the imagination? Do they symbolize freedom; power; mystery? ....Or all of the above....

Ever since I can remember I've loved and admired dragons, all kinds of dragons, but especially, the winged ones of European lineage. My favorite books have dragons playing a crucial role in the storyline. If you too love dragons, you will understand my fascination with books such as Anne McCaffrey's Pern series. Here, in the comfort of my dragonrider's den, I shall tell the tale of the special kinship between a young girl and the orphaned dragonette she rescues. Please bear with me as storytelling is new to me and I want to be sure that I have not misinterpreted the old manuscript I found, quite by accident, in a box I had picked up at a yard sale.

Dragons have long been misunderstood and maligned, really. Men have spent centuries hunting them to extinction. At least that is what the clever dragon would like us to think. Unbeknown to mankind, tucked away in the farthest reachest of a parallel universe, a small band of winged creatures have found refuge.

So long have they been unseen that dragons and their kin, the enormous reptiles of the dinosaur age, have all but been forgotten.
