1. Do not buy a hearing aid just because it is the cheapest. It has to do the job properly or you have wasted all your money. It is better to pay a little extra for something that works than buy something that doesn’t!

2. Wear your hearing aids consistently. Better hearing comes through practice.

3. Adjust the volume control with just the tip of your finger. Using two fingers will definitely shorten the life of your volume . Reason: One finger pushes on the volume & two fingers pull on the volume. Pulling causes the components to separate and “short” out!

4. Open the battery door at night when you remove the aid. This allows built-up mosture to escape easier. Moisture corrodes the components & can “muffle” the sound.

5. Have realistic expectations of what your hearing aids can and can’t do. If you want perfect hearing, you will be disappointed with any hearing aid you get. Also, different people have different hearing losses & benefit differently using hearing aids.

6. Replace your hearing aids every 5 or 6 years-sooner if needed. You will be amazed at the improvement hearing aids built to your current needs can provide.

Scams

As with any industry, there are people who are out to grab as much money as possible and they don’t care what they have to say or do to it.

Here are a few examples to lookout for:

“Traveling Salesmen” have no office, may not even be licensed in your state, rush to your house to test & sell you then disappear or slow to respond when you have a problem.

Test your hearing on your kitchen table-where surrounding noises causes your hearing loss to appear worse than it really is, their test equipment bounces around in back of their car-this delicate instrument gives inaccurate readings, and you hand over hundreds of dollars based on this kind of testing? Dumb!

You should be tested only in a sound-testroom in an office by a licensed Board Certified professional. This way you can get the service that you will need.

“Trade-ins: Get $$ Off”

Explain the value of a custom product like hearing aids or dentures to anyone other than the person they were made for! Do you want used dentures or hearing aids...neither does anyone else. (The price was too high to begin with-keep your old aid as spare if it works at all.)
