County HighPoint
Wayne County
New York
Reached August 7, 2003
Paul and Erica Erkkila have opened their land to geocachers and
county highpointers. On August 7, 2003, after completing a geocache,
Peak
Experience #54 (GCGEGW), I continued uphill and stood at the
county highpoint for Wayne County in New York State.
Reached the cohp by exiting at the New York State Thruway Exit 43.
Proceeded north on Route 21 to the village of Palmyra. There took NY
31 to Route 21 North. Went over the Erie Canal and turned right onto
North Creek Road. Driveway to Erkkila property 3755 North Creek Road
is 0.8 miles east on the north side of the highway.
Returning from the cohp I stopped to chat with Paul who confirmed
that I had reached the cohp.
Completed another geocache, Drumlin
View (GCGH6T), on the Erkkila property. Just north of this
geocache is a water tower and a cell tower. This vantage point
provides a 4 mile panoramic view of the area.
As Gary Fallesen suggest in his book, Peak Experiences, if
you are in Wayne County, you should visit nearby Chimney Bluffs State
Park.
Thanks to the Erkkilas making their property available to
visitors, both geocachers and county highpointers can enjoy this
county highpoint.
