DVD
ripping is quite slow process. There is no underground progie
that will allow you to make copys in two steps (instert the
DVD and hit "convert"). You will need many different
programs to complete this. Rippers - to copy .vob files from
DVD to your HDD; Various encoders to convert ripped files
into various formats (avi, mpeg, divx . . . ); Subrippers
to rip sbbtitles from original .vob files; CD Burning software
to burn your new files to CD-R (usualy 2 or 3 CD-R's are needed)
and ofcourse some minimal hardware equipment. I suggest following
minimum configuration:
- Pentium
III 550 MHz
- 128
MB RAM
- 20
GB 7200 rpm HDD
- DVD
6x
- CD
ROM 32x. You can use your DVD to watch CD-R's (not recomended)
- 17"
monitor
- Video
card with hardware DVD decoding function (or standalone
DVD decoder card) with at least 8 MB RAM and TV out
- SoundBlaster
Live!
- Speakers
I
have tried to convert 30 sec. .vob file to .avi using Flask
Mpeg, on my old Cyrix 133 MHz with 32 MB RAM, and it took
me about 2 hours to complete this !!!
You
will usualy need up to 6 hours (sometimes more) to complete
a 2 hours movie from the beggining to the end.
Why
do i need to do this ?
Why
?!? Answer is very simple :
If
you want a guaranteed and simple method that will produce
perfect DVDs try following:
- Buy
a Dolby Digital audio encoder or application ($800-$5.000)
- Buy
a DVD-Video authoring application ($500-$70.000)
- Buy
a DVD-R recorder ($5.000)
- encode
the video into MPEG-2, encode the audio into Dolby Digital
(or, if your video is short enough that you have room on
the disk, format the audio as 48KHz PCM)
- bring
the video and the audio clips into the DVD-Video authoring
program
- create
a menu or two if you're ambitious, and link the menu buttons
to your video clips
- create
some chapter points if you're really ambitious (if your
authoring program supports this)
- write
your finished work to a DVD-R ($40)
Total
money needed (excluding computer price) :
min:
$6.340 / max: $80.040
Thats
it. But if you work with the software on our Tool section
the result is (excluding computer price) :
max:
$7.5 (3 x $2.5 for the CD-R)
