ZOOLANDER
2001, directed by Ben Stiller
Starring:  Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Jerry Stiller, Will Ferrell, Christine Taylor, and lots of cameos.

I can pretty much quote 3/4 of this movie’s dialog from memory.  It is a ‘comedy classic,’ cementing Ben Stiller’s and Owen Wilson’s reputation as comedic box office draws.  I believe the set of Zoolander is where Ben Stiller met Christine Taylor (the Marsha Brady look alike), who he really did marry and have children with.  Life imitating art?!? once again.  Zoolander is about art?!? imitating life–the life of high fashion and the “really, really, really, really, good looking.”

There is a whole pantheon of stars involved in the mayhem, e.g. Jon Voight and Vince Vaughn as Ben’s coal mining father and brother, and Jerry Stiller and Will Ferrel as corrupt fashion weasels, in addition to many cameos involving stars and models playing themselves.  While the plot pretty much centers around the premise that high fashion models are dumb, it does so in such a clever and rolicking way, that all is forgiven.  Let’s face it–now that Tyra Banks has her reality modeling show, we can see for ourselves that models and their mentors are not big on promoting logic and critical thinking skills, especially when acne can ruin a model’s career!

While raunchy in parts, this movie can actually be watched with the kids, as long as you are ready to recite the lines and crack up with the kids as they watch it over and over.  I give it five stars!
