Date: 1768

Source of Information: "A List of Emigrant Ministers to America" by Fothergill

Immigrant: The Rev. Robert Yancey

Various sources including the one cited above make reference to a Robert Yancey emigrating to America in 1768. This was the Reverend Robert Yancey of Louisa County Virginia who had gone to England to be ordained and returned to Virginia to work in the parishes of Tillotson and Trinity. He is, therefore, not a true immigrant.

* This family appear to be US citizens, returning to the US - But I have never seen any other records, census or otherwise, that record this Yancey family - I have no other record to identify who this family was and how they may have been related to other Yanceys.

Thomas Yancy*, age 40, born in Ireland

John Yancy*, Age 11, born in Ireland

M[ichael?] Yancy*, age 5, born in Ireland

William Yancy*, age [7?], born in Ireland

*The name is clearly written as YANCY on the Index to the National Archive Passenger List Records, but when the actual passenger list was checked it would seem that the name may not actually have been YANCY. The spelling is not clear, and although the name certainly begins and ends with a "Y", it would seem that the name may be something like "Yearney" instead of "Yancy".

Date: 12 July 1846

Place: Port of New York

Name of Ship: New York (from Liverpool)

Source of Information: Index to Passenger Lists of Vessels Arriving at New York M261 Roll 103

Passenger Lists of Vessels Arriving at New York M237 Roll 63

Immigrants: James Yancey* , age 28, laborer, born in Great Britain

*The name is clearly written as YANCEY on the Index to the National Archive Pasenger List Records, and at first glance of the original document - that appears to be correct. But upon taking a close look at the way the surname was written, noting that the first letter of the surname does NOT go below the line (as a Y or J usually would), it would seem that the first letter in the surname could very well have been either a 'T' or an 'L' - the name possibly being TANCEY/TANSEY or LANCEY - both valid names of Great Britain.
