FUTURE YANCEY RESEARCH
"I would like to help in doing Yancey Family research, but it seems that all the research has been done" - I surely don't want anyone to think like that - there is still a lot to be done - and if you would like to help out the following are a few areas where Yancey Family research is needed. And if you know of any sources of material that you think should be checked for Yancey family information - let me know and I will add it here.
"I would like to help out, but I just don't know where to start any genealogical research on the Yanceys - I don't want to waste my time researching something that has already been done". Good point - that's one of the reasons I have put so much of my information on the Internet - to make it available to all. And that is another reason for this page - to let other people know of sources that still need to be reviewed:
Dennis Yancey
Yancey's Of Obscure or Uncertain
Origin and Parentage
Take a look at the following Web Site: http://www.oocities.org/Heartland/Acres/7647/unknown.htm
There are still many Yanceys who need to be identified and linked
into the main branches of the family - any research you could
provide on any of these Yanceys would be greatly appreciated.
Military Records for the War of
1812
There are various members of the Yancey family who served during
the War of 1812. Few of the military records for these have been
reviewed. The records have been microfilmed by the National
Archives.
Immigration Records
Few Yancey researchers have taken a close look at immigration
records for information on the Yancey family. For a start see
what has been recorded on the following Web Page
http://www.oocities.org/Heartland/Acres/7647/immigrat.html
Much of this, however, refers to indexes to the primary records -
in many cases the primary records have not been checked for
accuracy or further information.
College University Records.
What were the early Colleges and Universities of Virginia, North
Carolina, and other states where early Yanceys resided? Would any
records for Yanceys attending these institutions during early
years still be extant?
Newpaper Records
It is somewhat unusual the number of Newspaper Editors among the
early Yanceys. Examples include: William Lowndes Yancey, Robert
J. Yancey, Francis G. Yancey, Ben C. Yancey?, Charles Yancey? It
would be nice to review extant editions of these papers to find
any articles written by/about these editors.
Revolutionary War Bounty Records.
Court Records of Louisa County, Virginia
British records concerning Virginia
Masonic Records
Submitters to the LDS IGI & Ancestral Files
Submitters to GENDEX, GED, World TREE
