PROBABILITY
Probability is the chance of something happening.
PROBABILITY METER:
Impossible: 0% chance
Extremely Unlikely: 1 - 9% chance
Very Unlikely: 10 - 25% chance
Unlikely:26 - 44% chance
50-50 Chance: 45 -55% chance
Likely: 56 - 79% chance
Very Likely: 80 - 92% chance
Extremely Likely: 93 - 100% chance
Certain: 100% chance
Examples:
1. If I have a bag with 1 red, 7 green, and 2 yellow candies, what is the probability that I will pick out a green candy?
I have a total of 10 candies, 7 of which are green. That makes a fraction of 7/10. 7/10 is equal to 70/100 or 70%. The probability of picking out a green candy is 70% or likely.
2. If a roll a die, what is my probability that I will roll an even number?
A die has 6 faces (sides) and uses the numbers 1 through 6. When you look at the numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6 you can see that there are 3 even numbers (2,4,and 6). That is 3 out of 6 or 3/6. 3/6 is equal to 1/2 or 50%. My answer is 50% or 50-50 chance.
