Welcome
This site is designed to be a resource centre and meeting place for all Australian Dads and in particular those of us who have undertaken the role of full-time carer of their children.

Unfortunately here in Australia there are little or no internet resources for Stay At Home Dads and even though more men are choosing to stay at home with their children, lack of numbers can make contact between Dads difficult.

If you're new to parenting or Fatherhood or maybe a new Stay At Home Dad then hopefully you'll find some useful resources here.
Of course no-one's and expert at parenting because the learning process never ends, but experience is a great teacher and other Dads can be a good source of advice.

As Stay At Home Dads we have the most rewarding job in the world, watching our children grow up at close range, sharing in their day to day activities and being there for the biggest changes in their lives. Very few Dads have this opportunity, we are indeed privileged.

In terms of numbers, our environment is dominated by Mums and I'm happy to say that the Mums I've encountered have been fantastic. From playgroup to Pre-school they are extremely helpful and most are interested in the concept of Dads at home full-time. Despite that, the life of the Stay At Home Dad can be a lonely one and somewhat misunderstood making it even more important to keep in contact with others.

I hope that this site can become a place where Aussie SAHDs can meet and compare notes and experiences, from asking others opinions or advice, to talking about football..........or maybe just doing what Dads do best - bragging about our children!

So drop me a line or say hi on our
message board.....

Finally I want to stress that even though this site is directed at Aussie Stay At Home Dads we welcome all Dads everywhere and of course Mums too.

My At Home Background (briefly)

I gave up (paid) work about five years ago just after the birth of our first child, Brent to come home and be the primary carer. It was a bit of a laugh initially and I was looking forward to this long "holiday" and the days of leisure with the baby at home........
It didn't take me long to realise that I was in fact busier than I had ever been before, trying to keep up with the daily nappies, bottles and dribbles as well as the household chores I tried to attend to. I was a hopeless cook and I laugh now at the times Wendy would come home from work to some culinary creation that was absolutely horrible and she would compliment me on how nice it was.
I'm happy to say that my cooking has improved although I'm still busy with those nappies and bottles for our second child Sarah and Brent is now at school so I take comfort  in knowing that he made it even though his Dad was on "L" plates so Sarah should have no trouble........(so far so good)

As Stay At Home Dads we're all still constantly learning but if I could give any advice at all it would be to really embrace the task and really enjoy each day at home with your kids.

And one last thing, get out and about and meet other parents, join a playgroup, you won't regret it!
