The picture to the right, depicts the Sherpa porters who can carry over 100 lbs on their back. It amazed me that they could carry such a load on such an uneven path.
The Sherpas, a people who make their livlihood in the Himalayan Mountains, are mostly neglected by their government. Their main source of income derives from the foreign trekkers who frequent the trails. These porters either carry supplies to the lodges or carry gear for the tourists.
Some of the mule caravans were up to 12 animals. I was caught behind one such caravan. Since there was no room to pass, I had to endure trekking behind them. As my lungs worked hard, I almost fainted with the smells coming from these animals as they farted (I must have done something evil in my previous life.).
