These photos were taken by Joey, an employee at the Canadian Consulate in Yaounde, Cameroon. After an emotional good-bye to him, his family and staff, I was taken to the city limits and started on my journey to Gabon.
I was extremely ill here. My stomach was convulsing as I got onto the bike. Maybe it was a sickness, just nerves, or I was emotional leaving friends behind. But as soon as I was out of view, I began to cry...I mean, the traffic was such that my attention went immediately to staying on the narrow two-lane road. My stomach pains went way within the first 20 minutes of cycling.
