There are only 'Restless' and myself here tonight. I put my tent up in the shelter; her's is outside in the tenting area.

I got here rather late as I missed a turn in the trail and ended up on a blue blaze trail. It ended up costing me an hour to find my way out of it. It was my error initially, however, compounding things was the fact that the blue blazes had been painted on top of old white blazes so the colour was a very pale blue, which in the dappled light, looked a dirty white. So for a long time, I thought I was on the AT.

This morning the AT ran parallel to the Housatonic River (pictured) for about five miles; it was very pleasant indeed. The width of the river varied from 25 yards to 125 yards. At one point, I saw a deer crossing the river and she was leading her fawn. The fawn was in water just below her head but she seemed comfortable in following Mum without question.

At 12:30 P.M. I came to CT 4, so I hitched a ride the one mile into the town of Cornwall Bridge. Just a few shops there - that seemed to be it. I went to the Grocery/Deli and bought a quart of chocolate milk and a Submarine sandwich. I then sat out at the table on the covered verandah and talked to the locals who were coming and going. It was very pleasant indeed. No doubt about it - this is the how you meet small-town America. It's a great way to have a lunch break but unfortunately the luxury of being able to dash into nearby towns for lunch or a snack each day will become less and less frequent as I move further North into less populated areas.

That's it for now, goodnight all.
