I Only Want to Know

by David Alan Scott Jr.
October 11, 1994

You don't know what I think of you
And I don't know for sure
My soul is sick from loneliness
My heart must find a cure
I don't know what you think of me
And never will I ask
For trying to get next to you
Has proved no easy task
I don't know what ot think of us
In terms of fact or fake
I don't know what to give to you
I don't know what you'll take
I don't know if I'll slow you down
Or make you run away
It seems I would do anything
To make you want to stay
I don't know why you talk to me
Or sometimes why you don't
I wonder what will turn your head
And wonder more what won't
You don't know what I want from you
I wonder if you care
I wonder if you'll ever see
How much I want to share
You don't know why I say to you
These things of verse and rhyme
And I don't know if saying them
Is really worth my time
You don't know what to say to me
I don't know where to start
For all I know is what I say
Comes deep from in my heart
So if you wish to talk to me
About such things in time
Then maybe you will see the wheels
That turn within my mind
I hope someday you'll talk to me
And let your feelings show
Do not be scared of what I'll think
I only want to know.

PUBLICATION: Vortex, mid-June 1995, East High School

HISTORY: In hindsight, not easily one of my best, but young crushes don't exactly make a genius out of a person.
Written about the same person as most of my March '94 sonnets, it was probably written at one of those times where I felt compelled to write anything.
