Darkness

by David Alan Scott Jr.
May 28, 1996

every time i see You
i can feel You deep inside
must be something wrong with me
if You must try to hide

every day i want You
leaves me fearing how You feel
must be what i dream of You
that makes it so unreal

every dream i place You
i can see You high above
must be where i'm putting You
that makes it far from love

everyone before You
disappears when You are seen
must be words so hard to say
i don't know what they mean

everyone that knows You
knows that i will not be Yours
must be desolated fear
that makes me still unsure

every night without You
wipes away the starry skies
must be darkness in the air
that dampens both my eyes.

PUBLICATION: The Crier, Vol. 34, No. 5, April 14, 1997, Corning Community College.

HISTORY: I spent a good portion of the summer of '96 in my room, writing poetry. This is one of the better writings from that period.
Notice that the word "I"--as with most of the words here--is in lowercase, but the word "you" is capitalized. This shows the appropriate feeling of inferiority that the poem is built around.
