A chain driven Mazda rotary powered sand rail
Chain Reaction, is a 135" wheel base, single-seat, chrome-moly sand rail. The car was built for sand drag racing and previously held 3 National Records. (B/Pro Buggy ET, B/Pro Buggy MPH, C/Pro Buggy ET); The car curently weighs in at 631# minus the driver.

I currently have a race modified Mazda 12A Rotary in it with a ported Racing Beat intake, 650 cfm Holley, an 18" straight pipe header system, Adrenaline crank-trigger ignition and more. It has an Micro-Belmont "Reactor" snowmobile clutch mounted to a 3.5 pound Racing Beat aluminum flywheel with an Arctic Cat Bearcat secondary clutch. The rear end is based on an XTC-MotorSports chain driven spool with a 13 tooth out-put and 71 tooth drive sprocket. We built our own rear axles starting with a set of Sway-Away VW-bus race axles and race prepped Porche CV joints. We built the IRS system out of 3/4" chrome moly tubing.

Before I started building the car, I figured it should run around 4.8 seconds on the current motor and closer to 3.7 seconds on the peripheral port motor.   I managed a best of 4.848 at 69.57 mph in 2004, right on track with what I had estimated the car should run.
