Harlech
Castle
is a classic four wall rectangular fortification perched on a hillside
overlooking the western coast of Wales. The structure is quite
imposing and embodies all of the traditional elements that most people
imagine when they think of a castle. It has four high walls
terminated
by circular towers in each corner. There is a massive gatehouse
with
drawbridge facing inland that is protected by a deep ditch. The castle
is seated on a rock outcrop with steep slopes falling away on three
sides The central courtyard is a grass covered now, but in its day had
stone and timber buildings. |
