Dirleton Castle Castles
Next
Dirleton castle is located on the southerneastern coast of Scotland on the Firth of Forth.  It is a short drive from the city of Edinburgh.  The castle is partially intact ruin with several interesting architectural details.  There are remnants of a several large vaulted chambers on the ground floor that I believe served as kitchen and bakery.  The castle also has an intact beehive doocote (dovecote) where the occupants raised doves and pigeons for food. The main gatehouse of the castle with its drawbridge are still fairly intact.  One reason that we visited this castle was that it was en route to Tantallon castle from Edinburgh.  The castle proved to be a pleasant side-excursion with scenic grounds and locale.
