Great Eastern (GE) Animation SUCKS. 'Nuff said.

I have been into anime off-and-on since about 1986, though I got my true introduction to the art in 1976, thanks to Speed Racer (good grief, I'm probably carbon-dating myself right there!)... for those of you not in the know, anime is Japanese animation... many of you might know some dubbed-over, chopped-up series like Speed Racer, Robotech, and G-Force, but many of the most popular series are enjoyed in both subtitled and dubbed versions...

Series that I have watched and enjoyed include Magic Knight Rayearth, Urusei Yatsura, Ranma 1/2, Dragon Half, Jubei-Chan, Totokko Hamutaro, Bubblegum Crisis/Crash, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, The Slayers, Trigun, and my favorites of all, Di Gi Charat, Saber Marionette J, Sailor Moon and Pokemon...

Yes, Pokemon... who in the world said that Pokemon was just for kids? M-Chan and I are very much into Pokemon; we own most of the domestically released Pokemon games, plus binders full of lots of Pokemon cards, and I still pick up a Pokemon plushie every now and again... hey, we think it's fun...

Right now, I'm getting into Rozen Maiden and Tenjho Tenge, after having been in an anime dry spell (blame it on all the reality TV and crime procedurals being so good these last few years!)... M-Chan and I have been watching the Tenjho Tenge DVDs (we're up to the third one), and I torrented Rozen Maiden traumend, which is actually the second series... got the complete first series on DVD... I still want to get the actual legal traumend release, provided that I can even find it...

Somewhat in the same vein, I've lately kind of gotten into the Super Sentai series of tokusatsu shows... this is the stuff that first Saban, now Disney/Jetix, has been adapting into what we know as Power Rangers... I'd actually kind of stayed on the fringe of Power Rangers fandom since Mighty Morphin', because I thought that Scorpina, that poisonous princess of peril, was way awesome! When Scorpina left the series after about the second season, I pretty much stopped watching PR, until about the Ninja Storm season in '04... caught a few eps of that one... I'm still not so much a voracious PR watcher, but I started getting a bit more back into things; I at least know who the current crop of Rangers are, including the crew of the latest season, Power Rangers RPM (though I still much prefer the source material, Engine Sentai Go-Onger)... I've torrented the entire run of Go-Onger, as well as the four seasons prior, and am currently torrenting the latest season, Samurai Sentai Shinkenger, as quickly as the fine folks at TV-Nihon can get them done... the heavy Japanese flavor of Shinkenger, is going to pose a significant challenge for Disney to adapt it for the next PR, I'm sure!

Anyway...

I love collecting anime dolls... it's one of my greatest weaknesses! I am simply a sucker for the cute little plushes, fashion dolls, and SD keychains! Still the items that I'd most like to have are not easily found (and therefore pricey), but that's part of the fun of it all! These days, collecting genuine anime goods can be tricky; with anime becoming more popular, more and more bootleg anime goods are now available, and inferior grade licensed goods are turning up as well... I'm sorry to say that I've been duped into buying some bootleg goods; primarily CDs, but I do try and steer clear of bootleg anime goods, because they're shoddily made and deprive the license holders the profits they would otherwise be due... pricing is no guarantee of authenticity, either... some bootleg goods sell cheaply, but others, for some odd reason, are heavily marked up! It's definitely buyer beware when it comes to anime wares!
