Spring 2007 - LONDON FASHION WEEK
LONDON, Sep 22, 2006/ FW/ --- Boy George is a mastermind at creating a buzz. Showing his deliciously demented streetwear to an overcrowded audience for a second season, the eternal face of London’s infamous underground culture did not disappoint.
With the recent controversy surrounding Madrid’s ban on uber-thin models, Boy George remains ahead of the curve with his diverse casting.
There were short, muscular men, every-day girls and transvestites occupying the same space with the standard fashion model types. It’s quite difficult to imagine a group of streamline models doing proper justice to the label’s wacky designs.
Some particularly interesting looks included a men’s sleeveless tracksuit in peach with folded, oversized lapels and a quirky black shirt with a print of huge safety pins. Also, the blue gingham jacket for ladies was quite nice.
Even though the fledgling line has adopted an inclusive catwalk philosophy, there is still room for improving the clothes presented on the runway. There is still more work to be done if Boy George would like to appeal to a serious international fashion crowd.
With a bit more polish, Boy George’s B-Rude collection may prove to be more than a one-trick pony.
