| A graduate of the FC Porto academy, the youngster was rated as one of the best central defenders in Portugal last season, on loan at Académica Coimbra - the third of three seasons on loan to the Superliga club. Signed as a replacement for Pepe, who left for Porto this summer (2004), Tonel is expected to form a solid defensive partnership with experienced Dutch centre back Mitchell Van der Gaag. |
