| Not much went right for the Portuguese international (3 Caps) following his 1.4 million transfer from Uniăo Leiria to English Premier League club Wolverhampton (Wolves), last summer (2003). Silas barely got a chance in the Premier League, making only 2 starts - the opening two games of the season, including one against Manchester Utd. Silas joined Marítimo this summer (2004) on a twelve month loan contract, in which the verde-rubros have the option of purchasing the creative midfielder for a value of 4.4 million when the loan concludes next summer. The signing of Silas is seen as an massive coup, adding strength to an already exciting midfield. During his last season in Portugal (2002/03), Silas hit 8 goals in 32 games, while scoring an international goal for Portugal against Slovenia. We look forward to seeing him reignite this form for Marítimo, this season. |
